1. How does the conception of a multiverse (where we find ourselves living in an almost infinite realm that cannot be defined) make you feel? Knowing that you are made up of atoms and material stuff, how does it change the conception you have of yourself?
- To think that there is a multiverse makes me even more curious than before. It’s kind of hard to comprehend multiple universes with endless amount of stars, planets, galaxies and life, it’s scary and beautiful in a way. Knowing that I’m made up of atoms and material stuff does change my view of myself, I see myself and others around me just tiny spectacles of space stuff. Which I think is neat, because everything we see, touch, feel, eat, taste, breath, is all made of atoms just rearranged in different ways.
2. Quantum Mechanics is based on probability. How does a deep understanding of chance alter your philosophy on life?
- knowing that chance is the main factor in all of this mess we call life, makes me think that people really take life for granted. Every decision has a chance of not working out, every time I go out to eat, I have a chance of choking and dying. If you think about it too much, you start to feel fearful. Or it can be the other way around, you have a chance of succeeding. You can look at it in a negative way or a positive way, with that being said it’s random and unpredictable. It makes me look at life in a way that says “Hey, let’s try this out and see what happens.” All you can do is live with this gamble of a thing we call our life and hope you win big.
3. Relating to "Feynman's Flower" how does science broaden your appreciation of life and beauty? Give examples of your own life where you found something out from science that made you appreciate an ordinary thing or object much more?
- I strongly believe that science makes you look at the world in a different way. I think science broadens my appreciation of life and beauty by looking at it in a deeper sense, I can understand why something is the way it is. For example, I’m an EMT. Knowing basic biology and anatomy and physiology. I can know how the human body works when put to extreme measures can help me help my patients when they are involved in traumatic situations. Or when learning about plants, you know what kind of plants to eat and not to eat out in the wild, you learn how plants live and function. Science make me want to help life, all life. Science pushes people to want to better our lives and our world, better it in a way where we preserve its beauty and uniqueness.
