1. If you had to live your life over and over again (as given in Nietzsche's myth of eternal recurrence), describe precisely those things that you would change and why?
- If I had to live my life over and over again, but can only change it from this point on until I die. The first thing I would do is still continue going to school. I would try finish up my classes, however at the same time I would live life with a little less restrictions. I would smoke weed occasionally, because I usually do it once every blue moon. Which goes to show you, that I hardly do it. I would try to finish up my school A.S.A.P and try to get started with my career, I would also try to travel more. I would take mini vacations like every month, and try to see as much as I can. I would date more people, try to help more people and once I felt like I got the most out of it I would next try to start a family. Whether that be I meet that special someone, or Adoption or Artificial insemination. Deep down, I do want a family. Depending on how long I live, if I live to my 80’s and my kids are older and fly from the nest then I’ll be a little crazier. I’ll start doing some hard drugs and kind of let my life spin out of control for a bit, but after I get out of that phase I’ll be satisfied with my life knowing that I got to try the things I wanted to try. Then, I die.
2. Thinking about your own life (and connecting to the movie, the limits of science), what are the biggest obstacles that you confront in your educational career? More precisely, what limitations do you have that you feel limit your understanding of varying subjects and ideas?
- My biggest obstacles in my educational career would be me. I limit myself to doing many things, such as my education. My limitations would be me putting myself down and not having the self-confidence to push or believe in myself. I know that’s something that I have to work on, and believe me it’s a feeling that comes and goes. However, I do believe that is one of the biggest obstacles that I face and it’s not that I’m lazy. I just doubt myself or sometimes I think that “I’m not smart.” Just like all obstacles, I’m trying to overcome it. I know it’ll take time, but this is what I believe is my “limitation”.
3. Since the advent of hyper technology, what devices have you become most attached or addicted to? Why? Which ones are your friends most attached to? What are the pros and cons of such devices (connecting, of course, to the movie, "Surfing the User Interface".
- The device I’ve become most attached to is my cellphone, I don’t get anxiety when it’s not around me, unless I don’t know where it’s at then I start to have some anxiety. However, I think I’m attached to my phone because it holds everything about me. It has my credit information, Tax information, emails, bank account links etc…Phones have everything that is right now and right there, all the games I want, T.V Shows, if I want to find the closest place to eat, or if I want date someone. Even with my best-friends they are attached to their phones as well, when we go out for our girls’ night sometimes one or all of us are on our phones for a good 20 mins prior our meal. I think the pros of having a cell phone is that it provides entertainment, information, sometimes safety if you have to call 911. The cons for example, in the video when they mention how in “Brave New World” that “We would be enslaved by a variety of amusements.” I truly believe that. In a sense, I am a slave to my phone, I sleep with it, eat with it, take it to the bathroom (Don’t judge! You do it too!) I do think that people spend less time focusing on themselves and time more staring at a screen, which can discourage us to achieve our goals. I also think people don’t interact as much because of cell phones. Technology is constantly changing and who knows what’s next after phones, and virtual reality headsets, maybe a chip you insert in your head to access information.
