1. Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
I believe artificial intelligence will be a huge problem in the future. Just throughout my life so far seeing how far technology has advanced and the things that people can do with these technological advances can be surprising. With what people are continuing to make in the technology field I believe things like artificial intelligence can be a problem. In the video “The Coming Singularity,” Ray Kurzweil mentioned that “by 2020 we will have computers powerful enough to simulate the human brain…Information technology grows exponentially, powerful computers understanding the human brain.” Computers will be much knowledgeable than human beings and will share knowledge electronically a million times faster than through the human languages. The development of the artificial intelligence is an evolution in the human technology from within the human culture. “By 2029, we will have reverse engineered and modeled and simulated all the regions of the brain.” I think the life that we have now has already been controlled by technology, in the past, the way that we communicated was by talking, and confronting each other face to face. Now, we see people keeping their heads down on their phones when hanging with a group of people at a restaurant, and parents controlling their kids by playing cartoons on the iPad while at the dinner table. In the future, if the wrong people obtain the key to using technology and robots, then we can face deadly situations.
2. How has technology impacted your life?
Technology has impacted my life in a huge way. From little things as an iPhone to the car I possess now. In many ways technology has enabled us to strengthen relationships by keeping in contact with old friends, colleagues, and co-workers. Technology has even provided opportunities for students all over the world to receive an education online, while still maintaining work schedules and family. Students are now able to take web courses and attain their degree online just as any student on campus. It is remarkable how fast technology has evolved throughout the years. In “Einstein’s Wastebasket,” Ray Kurzweil mentioned that “We will be able to repair our own brains digitally. When a part in our human brain is not working, we can implant a computer component to remedy the situation.” He’s implying that technology will impact our lives greatly. With technology playing a significant role in my life as a student and employee, sometimes I find it rather difficult to engage in a conversation with friends without the use of technology. My friends and I find excitement through watching YouTube videos and listening to music, which then leads to conversation. I have yet to see people engage in conversations the “old fashion” way, without phones, tablets, or a computer, which is something that I would like to see more.
