1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
The theory of evolution is basically that Darwin thinks every living thing in life came from a common ancestor; everything is related to each other. It is important for people to understand where they came from. Every piece of our genetic information can be traced back to many years ago, and it can be used to discover how people have evolved from that time and what they will be like in the future. In the video, “Evolution Explained in Four Minutes,” it said that “we are in some an end result of a blind watchmaker” because we will never know what we will look like or turn into, it is also important to discover what kind of environment we have been living in because the environment had big changes since back then till now, and the environment has a big effect on our behavior. It is important to find out what kind of environment we will be living in the future in order to have an understanding of the human behavior in the future.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
I think evolutionary theory cannot explain psychology. As in the book, “Evolutionary limits,” has mentioned that “I believe there are such limits…so surely we can trace the action of some unknown higher law” (12). Psychology is something that does not necessarily have to do with genetics; it is more of the nurture part in a person’s life. Even if one’s behavior evolved over time, it still cannot explain how a person will think and how healthy their mind will be. Psychology goes beyond the theory of evolution because evolution involves more of the physical part of us, how we behave, how we look, how we grow, but psychology explains the brain and the thoughts of a person, which as of now there are still a lot to be discovered.
