Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
Although I don’t feel artificial intelligence will become a severely significant problem in the future, I do feel that the vast majority of people observe the possibility of problems in a We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it...͟ manner. If it is not a current immediate problem, then why bother worrying about it. We do not know all the negative manners in which technology will be used, however, we can theorize the possibilities. If we speculate how technology might be used, then we can find ways to fix, solve, or fight against the problem using that same technology. I’m working extensively with the army to develop a rapid response system to deal with the possible abuse of biotechnology... the same technologies that are empowering us to reprogram biology away from cancer and heart disease, can also be used by a terrorist to reprogram a biological virus to be more deadly or more communicable(Ray Kurzweil: The Coming Singularity). As long as the problems are anticipated and an action plan is maintained, then any problem caused by artificial intelligence would likely be thwarted quickly.
How has technology impacted your life?
Technology has generally had a positive impact on my life. With more advances in science and technology, come more advancements in medicine. I have the option to track my activity and monitor my heart rate, all from my phone. Doctors are able to input information, monitor, and communicate with their patients online using tablets. The types of medication and procedures that are available allow for more a much longer human life expectancy, as opposed to the life span of those in early years. We’ve been helped more than we’ve been hurt by technology already. Human life expectancy was 37 in 1800. (Ray Kurzweil: The coming singularity). If the endeavors of technology continue to be for the benefit of others, then the myriad of possible uses for technology are endless – especially for medical purposes. I look forward to seeing the types of medical advancements will be available in the next 10 years.
