Week 6:
1. Why is Faqir Chand's experiences important in understanding the projective nature of religious visions and miracles?
Understanding Faquir Chands experiences is important in understanding the nature of visions and religions because it helps us understand that when we encounter religious visions or miracles it is based on what is occurring to us in our lives. In the book Unknowing Sage Faquir states, “All manifestations visions and forms that are seen within our mental (illusory) creations.” It is important because he gives us an explanation as to why miracles occur within our own lives. They are most likely going to be evidence that such thing as virtual simulator can exist by using the brain's capability. It also illustrate that religious visions and miracles are something that can be an illusion for our consciousness. In the same book Chand explains this energy from within: “I came to believe that the Master is no separate entity. Rather, He is the disciple’s Real Life Self and resided within” (31). Chand has a very powerful message within the frame of this quote. Often in our society, culture and religion we look and refer to that “energy” or “transcendent” form or higher being as something above us or watching over us. In the film the Faqir Chand: Inner Visions and Running Trains, Chand states, ““All visions are projections of the mind and are illusions” He also said, “I believe intensified faith of these devout persons became created and produces these results.” Given Chand’s experiences and perspectives, we must acknowledge the idea that there is an energy or force that lies within our own mind and body. Based on this experience, we can see that the brain can create and in fact create illusions to make our self believe that something is real. By understanding this more, we can further understand the projective nature of religious vision and miracles.

2. What is meant by the phrase, "philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy."
From the film Oceanic Metaphor, the phrase that reminds me of this is “any meaning is better than no meaning, provided such meaning allows us to live an extra day.” Philosophy acting as science is very similar. If it is done well, it will act as science and give us meaning. If it is not well, it will not science and give us meaning. If it is not well, it will not giving any scientific meaning. Philosophy continues to use neuroscience and physics in order to prove its theories and should continue because there’s endless possibilities will never be established. As Einstein believed physics is a true science it just has to be furthered out completely in order to be credible. And as Calvino’s metaphor there is no end to it and not acceptance or denial until every aspect could be present. According to the film, The Remainder Conjecture it states, “If something is genuinely beyond science’s reach, it will invariably show up as a remainder.” So, for things that science cannot reach ends up as remainder. When it is remainder, no other explanations can explain the remainder of the phenomena so it stays as philosophy.
