1.Why is Faqir Chand's experiences important in understanding the projective nature of religious visions and miracles?
Faqir Chand's experiences are important because they give insight on a key aspect of religion that not many have thought of before. In “The Unknowing Sage”, Chand came to the conclusion that “the master is no separate entity. Rather, he is the disciple's Real Self and resided within” (Lane 31). Chand has revolutionized our view of religious visions and miracles with this very statement. Understanding that the “master” is within us, gives us the ability translate the vision into whatever meaning we wish for it. We have an input into the vision or miracle and what we decide for it to mean.
2. What is meant by the phrase, “philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy.”
The phrase means that when philosophy is done well it is able to answer a question justifiably. Science is seen as explaining the things we do not know, while philosophy can be seen as a thought of how something is or should be functioning. In science there is experimentation and observations, which great philosophers have done in the past and now are considered as both philosophers and scientists. When philosophy is “done well” it explains why something is, but if it isn't “done well” we then leave it as simply philosophy. This is partial due to the lack of use of the scientific method.
