1. How would you feel if you realized that you were just “stuff”, just this body, and that there was nothing “meta” physical about you? Be sure to use your “I” voice and present your reaction in an autobiographical framework. Also make pertinent references (when possible) to the film on mysterium tremendum.

I attend a sermon every Sunday in which evry teaching inflicts a sense of purpose. For many it is enough for them to feel comfortable with their occupationas and families. For some it is just a form of trying to find themselves. If one day that single day I go to church were to be taken away I believe it will cause chaos among my daily routine. It is laughable to believe that religion could mean so much to person but it does. Being told that were just a body full of matter is an attack on various years of belief. The fact is that some have to be told in a daily basis that we are worthy but some don’t. as mentioned in the analogy of the grenade there are only few who don’t posses the ability to actually deviate form the usual belief. If we are told we are just matter it should not deviate from the actual truth or beliefs rather it should strengthen the belief.
2. Using your own life as a template, provide two or more examples of Plato’s Allegory of the cave. Hint: think of those times in your life when you mistakenly believed something to be true or real but you later realized wasn’t. Be sure to think within the context of the movie.
as a child there was a time in which i was told that such things as demons and bad spirits were among us. one day in halloween, ironically, we started hearing a strange noise around the house. my mother and grandmother instantly went into exorcist mode and started making all of the huse memebrs to prey various hours. i would sleep and instantly start visualizing the image of what shook the windows, until this day i know there is a rational explanation but im yet to find it. the influential beliefs of spirituality has a strong influence especially in a child.
one ongoing debate i have every day is the ongoing debate of the apocalypse. there have been numerous teachings, sermons, and individual readings in which have made me belief that the coming of god might be very true. the ongoing predictions continue to happen but at the same time other readings have me in disbelief. it is a prime example of platos allegory of the cave if i ever come to the self conclusion that the apocalypse will have nothing to do with the worlds destruction, rather our own actions will.
