1. Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
According to Techopedia, artificial intelligence is “an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans.” Basically, to put it in simple terms, artificial intelligence is a robotic version of yourself. Another way to put it according to the book, Einstein’s Wastebasket, you can think of it as a “new brain [that] can live in virtual reality or be connected to a robotic body and live in the external world” (Lane 68). In my opinion, artificial intelligence seems like it can potentially be a significant problem in the near future, but it could also potentially have its limited benefits. Even though a computer or machine is able to be “10 million times faster than the brain’s electrochemistry” (Lane 4) and “can access billions of data, including vast literature and material from disconnected fields of study” (Lane 4), our human brain is extraordinary. Our brain is able to save memories, know a person inside and out, and is able to know what makes them happy. Artificial intelligence could be a significant problem in the future because with this pace and knowledge happening, it seems like they will soon take over the world thus leading to human extinction and a financial crisis. In terms of Einstein’s Wastebasket, “they may trample us as we do an anthill” (Lane 71). It could also be a significant problem in the future because just like what is currently happening with gun control in the world, robots and machines can lead to uncontrollable actions leading to violence. Though there are many negatives in this situation, one of the big benefits artificial intelligence can be in the future is that technology can help cure people from deadly diseases and can also widen our knowledge to be shared with those that need the help. For example, robots can help kids with sign language when no one is able to or help communicate and translate. Just like in the novel, artificial intelligence is soon advancing and it is our responsibility, as humans, to focus in “setting up game rules and ethical standards, helping to create a friendly future before it is too late” (Lane 71).

2. How has technology impacted your life?
Technology has impacted my life in both a negative and surprisingly, positive way. To be honest, technology is involved in my life everyday. From waking up to see who texted me to typing my philosophy essay questions, I am surrounded by it. Negatively, technology has taken over my life. It is sad to think how much I depend on technology to not only communicate with friends and family, but it also has lessened my time spent with family. Even though technology shouldn’t be put to blame in making the choice during family outings, I depend on technology for entertainment sometimes when it is family time. Though technology may have its downsides, it has helped deepen my knowledge. For example, without articles online and videos posted, I wouldn’t be able to know what is currently going on in the world, whether it be gun violence to a dog juggling. Another way technology has impacted my life is my experience working in the hospital. With technology advancing, the old machines were replaced with new ones, which helped to capture more accurate data quickly. Lastly, surprisingly, technology has helped me capture the best moments in my life. With the help of it, I am able to capture pictures and videos with friends and family. In a way with the journals I type and my baby pictures, it has helped me realize how much I developed and grew into a better person. Not only has technology impacted my life in a positive and negative way, but it helped me realize that I shouldn’t depend on it as much. It helped me realize that family is more important, and I will continue to grow and learn from this: to spend more time with my loved ones, but also to deepen my knowledge through the articles and news online.
