Q1
1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
According to the required book “Is the Universe an APP”, virtual simulation it can potentially simulate anything given the necessary information. This theory means that our consciousness is virtual, people has hardly realized things between which is “may be real” and “is indeed real”. (John Lilly) People usually think that “you” is existed in reality, but the truth is “you” is virtual and it is only people’s consciousness. “You are nothing but a pack of neurons” ( Lewis Carroll's Alice) David Lane also said in the book” Consciousness is a fantastic virtual simulator and because of its inclusive and insular engineering it has an inherent tendency to believe in its own machinations as exterior to itself and not as the byproduct if its own interiority” (P75) Because of the consciousness that people have, makes people easier to survival in the society. Since people have beliefs, thoughts, and culturalism, those makes people gather in communities; that is the product of consciousness.
Q2
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival?
The brain tricks us by letting us believe that what we see is true, but is actually not true. The brain leading us to see the world in a different way by giving illusion thought the consciousness. The consciousness makes us believe in what the brain wants us to believe. For example, we make judgments about a person by the first impression. It might not be true for the person, but according to what we saw, we will judge the person and believe in it. However, it helps us better survive in nature. The brain allows us to build a self-conscious awareness which can compare to other animals in nature. According to the film, that consciousness makes people think and develop their brain, which created the better gene for people’s descendant.
