1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
The theory of evolution helps us understand how the world has developed and grown. Darwin’s theory of evolution changed the knowledge of our origin. Thus materialistic view said that there was no spiritual explanation of human orgin, but instead natural selection and adaptation to the world around us. Natural selection is the idea that certain genes are passed down that is more favorable to the completion for survival. It’s a fundamental idea that humans are a product of natural selection. In The DNA of Consciousness, our genetics and our DNA makeup helps us trace someone’s genetic history and past.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer? Be sure to support your answers with references to the required readings and films.
I think evolutionary theory can answer anything through time. I’m not a religious or spiritual person, so I believe that science can prove anything, maybe not now but in time the answers will be given. From medicine, neurology, genetics, scientists are gaining new knowledge and insight on the human body and mind. In The DNA of Consciousness, it talks about how consciousness has been a factor in human survival because it has developed “an internalized map of probabilities which can be visualized internally without having to be outsourced prematurely.” The human mind can imagine different scenarios and outcomes within situations, thus helping make choices and decisions. The more time that we have to think about the world and our universe, we understand more about how it works, and hopefully answer the questions left unanswered.
