1. At first, after watching the video that my eccentric professor had shown us in class I was a bit confused. Then Professor Lane explained to us that we are basically just bodies of meat. This had made me a little discouraged and made me think to myself that my life does not matter. Everything I did in my life including the good and bad decisions did not matter. That time in high school when I nearly urinated my pants during a presentation due to the pressure of getting a good grade was made non-important because the fact that we are just meat. This realization of my reality had made me think why am I trying so hard in life for absolutely nothing. Professor Lane then had added to his lecture “What if I said we are just beings of light?”. This had change my view of life after the depressing reality of us as just bodies of meat. This had made me feel more important and change my thoughts in a more positive way. What I learned from my Professor’s lecture is that the way we see ourselves can strongly influence our thoughts and views of life. Both views made me think to myself why am I stressing out in my life for nothing. People who take life too seriously need to realize that we are just a bag of meat because it would make them stop trying so hard to be successful. If everyone realized they were just a bag of meat or being of light racism would probably not exist. All the wars fought over religion or politics would be a thing of the past if all of us just realize we are just bags of meat. In a way I am glad I was told that I am a bag of meat because it makes all the problems of life insignificant.
2. Plato’s allegory tells a story of prisoners who were chained up since birth in a cave. They cannot turn around and the shadows that were displayed in front of them where illusions. These cave men had come to think that the shadows were the real objects instead of being just shadows of the objects. The one prisoner that escaped had went outside and had the realization that everything that they grew up knowing was a lie. In my life I had had been tricked to thinking that a girl that I met on the internet was an actual girl who liked me. For a week I had the thought that this girl is a real girl. Eventually I had found out she was not real and that my friends had cat fished me just to play a prank. Like the prisoners of the cave I was lead to believe what I saw in front of me was real instead of it being a projection of the puppeteer which in this case was my so called friends. This made me realize never trust friends and never trust what is in front of you, always be aware of what is around you. Another example of my life that was similar to Plato’s allegory is when my parents said I was going to the mall to get video games. Like Plato’s prisoners I was again tricked by what was in front of me. My parents, the puppeteers, had told me this lie to bring me to the hospital to get circumcision. I learned that day to not to trust anyone including my parents. This also reinforced my philosophy not to trust anyone and always be aware of who and what is around you.
