Why is there conflict between matter and religion? To further explain what matter is, it is more than what it sounds like. It has a much greater meaning than what we think it has. It answers and gives a great example of what we should be thinking. The old definition we use for matter would be identifying it has just something that is just there and has no greater meaning; gray and flat. That is probably where the negativity and the misinterpretation comes from. In the book The Great Mystery, it gives the example of this feeling when students were asked about how they felt when said they’re bodies were made of light compared to being told they’re just carrying 3lbs if meat. The students said they would rather be told they’re made of light because the phrase made them feel like they had a purpose. But this is the dilemma between the two. Matter has more components of nature in a sense that it is unexpected. And with religion it’s more of a path that is made for you to follow.
In the book it explained how we cannot see things for how they are because we are altering them by our looks. Plato’s allegory of the cave is mentioned and says we are the prisoners of the cave and we cannot tell what is and isn’t real in reality. As prisoners we are limited in our senses which leads back this conflict. There will always be a sense of conflict because one believes the other tells the truth. Whether it be science that has an explanation for everything to when it doesn’t. People will always think that one is greater than the other.
