1. Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
In my opinion, I do think there will be significant problems with artificial intelligence in the future, but at the same time, I do believe artificial intelligence will progress society in a positive direction. According to Ray Kurzweil in the video, The Coming Singularity, by 2020 we’ll have computers powerful enough to simulate the human brain and by 2029 we will have completed the reverse engineering of the brain. With artificial intelligence, society has benefited significantly and has made life much more simple. For example, GPS, Siri/ Google Search, technology in our laptops/phones and even our televisions, and many other things in our daily lives are equipped with some sort of artificial intelligence. Technology with artificial intelligence is still relatively in its early stage and its speed of growth is only increasing more and more rapidly. In the near future, it would not be surprising to see cars driving itself (currently being designed by Tesla), robots assisting with medical procedures or used as a weapon/soldier, or even the technology we see in some movies. On the other hand, artificial intelligence could also be used in a way that could be a significant problem to society. If terrorists were (and most likely will) be able to get their hands on these technologies, they would be able to use these technology to damage society. By being able to program technology with artificial intelligence to cause harm, then artifice intelligence would, with no doubt, be a significant problem. Although artificial intelligence would not be the root cause of the problem, it could deem a problem for the future. A quote that really holds true is said by Leonard I. Sweet, “[t]he future is not something we enter. The future is something we create.”
2. How has technology impacted your life?
Technology has been a huge impact in my life and is involved constantly in some type of way. From using my phone or laptop to look up information or browse the web, using my car to get from place to place, watching television, to even going out in public, technology is there and Is constantly being used. It has become a day and age where technology is everywhere, to make our lives easier. In my opinion, although technology is progressing society as a whole, I feel that technology is also hindering us by society depending too much on technology. For example, when the technology in businesses are malfunctioning or shut down, the businesses are unable to continue functioning and sometimes come to a complete stop. Another example of how technology has hinder us personally is that we have become so reliant on a certain piece of technology that we can not leave home without it. In most cases, this would be our phones, and without it some would have the feeling that something is missing and be at unease due to this. Even when having to do simple math, although it could be done in our heads, some pull out a calculator to avoid having to do it themselves. With no doubt, technology has definitely played a huge role in my life.
