Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
Artificial intelegence is said to become the end of human kind. There has been many movies that give predictions of how man will fall to “machines”. Yes, it is seen that these can be lessons for humans to not be too eager to advance technology and create artificial intelligence but the progress has not slowed in the least. With the development of artificial intelligence there will be many problems, other than loss of life, that can be seen already that will could make the future difficult.
One of the major places that AI can be seen to hinder humans is the workplace. Essentially robots with AI, however limited, can replace workers in most industries. In the video Ray Kurzweil: The Coming Singularity Kurzwell states that combining human consciousness and the power and intelligence of computers this will create a revolution that will make a drastic change in the world. From food production to scientific discoveries, the world is heading towards a more automated workforce. Without giving humans a “place” in the world what will we become. My predication, and it’s a scary one, is a mix of the reality from the movie “Wall-E”, where humans are so large and depend on technology to live, and the danger of losing control of what we create.
How has technology impacted your life?
Technology has changed life in so many ways . From the way we work, play, even the way we get information for any facet of life. Like the example of books from “Digital Philosophy” the way we live our lives has changed due to the increased presence and dependency on technology. As the changing of buying physical books to using ebooks and apps such as kindle the methods that we used to rely on have given way to methods that require less effort and thought processes.
From how I study for classes to how I keep track of my softball teams scores and batting averages. Technology has changed my way of thinking and living by making the ways to find information, complete tasks and assignments, and ultimate enjoy life easier. One of the downsides I see is that not only myself but the world has become so dependent on technology for any little thing that comes our way, the moment it all goes down for any reason, we will be lost without it.
