1. The virtual simulator hypothesis of consciousness suggests that our day dreaming is a virtual simulator that allows us to think out scenarios before it occurs. This concept gives us an explanation to why we as people day dream constantly through-out the day. My day dreaming in class during a boring lecture allows me to think out a scenario before it happens. It allows me to prepare myself for the future which gives me and all of us an advantage over other species. For example during a lecture in class such as philosophy I would probably be zoned out and day dreaming of a man with a gun barging in to the class to take everyone hostage. In this day dream I save everyone by throwing a book at the guys head knocking him out. Now let’s just say that this scenario happens in real life I would be prepared and know what to do thanks to daydreaming. Day allows us to be prepared with events in our life.
2. The M.E theory explains a lot about my own religion and others. I was raised catholic, a religion that suggest that we have to work for everything in life because of Adam and Eve’s eating of the forbidden fruit and getting kicked out of the garden. This gives me some reasoning to why we have to go to school just to get a good job and why we have to work. M.E theory also explains the purpose of why we have stories such as Jesus and the cross. This story gives us a meaning to continue our life being good because it will provide us a way into heaven.
3. As my philosophy professor states in the evolutionary imperative “none of our ancestors failed in their genetic transmission since otherwise we won’t exist.” This is the purpose of my life to father a child and pass on the genetic code and die. This is also the purpose into why I’m going to college. I go to college to, get a degree, to get a career, to gain money not for myself but to support my children in the future. In other words I go to college in order to gain lots of money to raise my children so they can pass on their genetic code. This is all our purpose in life and explains why we do what we do.
