1. Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Understanding physics and the general rules of the universe is so important in doing philosophy for different reasons. The intellectual thinking of philosophy is complex, yet understandable for everyone, based off evidence in which the universe has to offer and the mathematics and statistics in physics can back up your evidence. Without fully understanding physics and general rules you can not have philosophy. All the famous philosophers over the years where geniuses in math because philosophy and physics go hand in hand.
One of the most well known philosophers came up with many different theories, such as Einstein, he discovered the quantum theory. He said, "As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality
" (Land and Diem-Lane, 2014, p14). Many people interpreted this quote for several years. Until Neils Bohr, another philosopher, said the infamous quote: “When it comes to atoms, language can be used only as in poetry. The poet, too, is not nearly so concerned with describing facts as with creating images. It is wrong to think that the task of physics is to find out how Nature is. Physics concerns what we say about Nature” (Land and Diem-Lane, 2014, p14). Based off of this description, Bohr was almost agreeing with Einstein. When states "It is wrong to think that the task of physics is to find out how nature is", it is like he had no proof or it isn't "certain" referring back to what Einstein was saying. They understood physics and the rules of the universe, however putting them together completely couldn't work. Although, they both come down to their philosophical thinking.

2. What is eliminative materialism? Provide three examples of it. Be sure to support your answers with references to the required readings and films.
Eliminative materialism is described in several videos. In "Eliminative Materialism: Part One", Neuralsurfer explains the term by saying, "If a phenomenon cannot be explained fully and comprehensively by mathematics, then one turns to physics. If that too is incomplete, then turn to chemistry, then biology, psychology, sociology... If none of these academic disciplines can explain it, then it's perfectly okay to say 'Well God did it'." This quote is self-explanatory and talks about how almost everything has an explanation or justification in one of the subjects and if there isn't then "God did it."
"Eliminative Materialism: Part Two", goes into detail how we have "scientifically advanced in astronomy, medicine, and physics". Neuralsurfer then demonstrates by including that we "replaced the old and updated concepts of our mythic past with new and more accurate terminology". What he meant by this was or "mythic past" about the Gods and spirits have been eliminated, further more, to get our "new" and "accurate" philosophical explanations.
Lastly, in "Eliminative Materialism: Part Three" it reveals that eliminative materialism "helps us better understand why certain events transpire our body, mind, society, and world." On the other hand, eliminative materialism has allowed us "to change our thinking about almost everything, except ourselves". This quote brings it back to Part One, where "God did it". It seems that God has made us have desire, love, and much more that can't be explained fully, in which makes us question ourselves. Thus, eliminative materialism is this radical claim that trying to figure ones' mind is wrong in doing so because it cannot be explained fully resulting it doesn't exist or otherwise "God did it."
