1. Let’s first begin with two important definitions. Physics is defined as the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics, distinguished from that of chemistry and biology, includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms. (google.com) Philosophy is defined as the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline. (google.com) both of these topics have this underlying tone of science. Although I haven’t taken Physics I know that there are rules relating to motion and energy. In comparison, I feel that in Philosophy a lot of the arguments on existence tend to have science based information. In my opinion a lot of it is what we don’t know or understand. In the book Quantum Weirdness it says, “We start from naïve realism…We think that the grass is green, the stones are hard, and that snow is cold. But physics assures us that the greenness of the grass, the hardness of stones, and coldness of snow are not the greenness, hardness, and coldness that we know in our own experience, but something different. (pg 15)
2. It’s like a form of process of elimination by turning to physics, biology, chemistry, psychology and sociology. If all those subjects cant give us some reason then we say, "Well God did it." However going back to last weeks discussion some indivduals will go with the idea that God did it before even going to science. Some of us choose to live by faith an not need to figure out every Little answer to life because no matter what we are all going to eventually die and only then will we know what we will go through. I did like the ideos though because its something I am not reallu use to seeing ir even discussing. In the short videos by Lane it discusses how eliminative materialism is reason with knowledge. The 3 videos that were part 1, 2 and 3 gave 3 examples that really stood out to me and quite honestly I’ve never heard before. The first example from the videos is that thunder was once thought to be because of Thor. Later in time civilians found out thunder was related to electrical and magnetic currents that occurred. The second example was that spirits were the main cause for diseases in humans and later through science and medicine it was actually simple things like bacteria and viruses. The final example from the video was that ghosts were circulating through our bodies pulling muscles similar to spasms and later was discovered to be our central nervous system that did all the work. So in conclusion there were these myths but in the end through science we came to realizations and use this for future generations.
