Week Six: Essay Questions
Why is Faqir Chand’s experiences important in understanding the projective nature of religious visions and miracles?
Throughout Faqir Chand’s lifestyle and his work he showed that people do not have the knowledge about everything and essentially that questions that go unanswered are what leads us to religion. Assuming that believing in the unknown and expecting all great things to come ot of it. He emphasized how important it was to have a teacher or a leader of some kind during their lifetime. Also stating that most people lack the knowledge of things which are to hard to comprehend for a normal person’s capacity. Faqir believed that religion is all about perspective and the way in which we view it. Some people may look at things one way, while others look at it another way, neither way being wrong. Believing that manifestations do not exist, due to people’s faith they sometimes convince themselves they are real according to Faqir. With science we are still unable to find the answers to many questions, so making it almost impossible for man to be able to answer these questions as well. Because knowledge goes far beyond what we can imagine, it is only reasonable that not everything can be answered. When Chand had experienced a near death approach he had a vision that not only saved his life but the lives of others. He states that’ “the true knowledge of the feelings, visions, and images that are seen within ourselves,” in “The Unknowing Saga: The Life and Work of Faqir Chand.” Faqir Chand’s experiences make it important to understand these things because he is known for having these well known visions.
2. What is meant by the phrase, “philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy.”
Philosophy and science kind of go hand in hand. Almost every explanation in philosophy is supported by science. Considering that philosophy can be based off of imagination it takes testing and facts in order to make it relevant to the world. When the idea or theory is in question is tested and proved to be true it then becomes a theory in science. When a statement is made in philosophy, science is required to prove its accuracy. That is known as philosophy done well. Philosophy revolves around the answering of questions. Therefore, if the questions go unanswered, without science all it really remains is the philosophy or not proven to be true. In the video “The Remainder Conjecture,” it says that “If something is genuinely beyond science’s reach, it will invariably show up as a remainder.” Although it may have been a great outlook or belief, it will never become the reality of something without the proof of science to back it up.
