1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
According to the book “Is The Universe an app?” “In other words, if consciousness is a virtual simulator then it can potentially simulate anything given the necessary information. The glitch here, however, is that a simulating brain is invariably bounded by what it believes to be possible, particularly in a society which by its very structure tends to limit what can be plausibly accepted at any one particular point in time and space (119).” The virtual simulation theory of consciousness is about imaginary surroundings happens, and “we are stuck within the limits of out subjective universe. (136)” Here it means we are living in an age with smartphones, but we have virtual stimulator to help us survive.
This book also says “the brain is a virtual simulator because of dreaming where everything is hallucinated by us, even without us knowing how and why we are doing it. The waking state differs from dreaming because it receives external data streams from the nine orifices of our body, which allows for new material from which our brain can draw new maps about how to respond to any given situation (106).” In other words, we see this world based on our own brain judge, we see and believe things in our mind. It can make false true. (119)
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival?
In the video “The Wisdom Tooth,” it says our brain shut down the neurons capacity respond, the result is that no pain signals from the neuron are sent to the brain. This is a fact that brain trick us to benefit for survival. The video “A Glorious Piece of Meat” says “I do not digest my food, I do not eat my heart, I do not develop anti bodies to war of diseases.” Every one of us are benefit from this orders, and we survival generation by generation by following these basic rules programmed by brain. From the book “Is The Universe an app?” it says “Our survival is predicated upon making day-to-day decisions over these very issue. Whenever I surf I tend not to confuse a surfboard with a surfer.” Brain make us very clear in not conflating important things with other things. This make us benefit from day-to-day decisions for surviving.
