1. Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Philosophy is the study of existence, knowledge, and truth and physics is the branch of science that studies the physical properties and phenomena of nature and matter and energy. Therefore, these two can go hand in hand. Philosophy is our perception of truth and how we use knowledge to understand and explain reasons of truth. It’s helpful to understand physics, ergo, because with physics, we can use science and math to provide solutions and formulas to these truths.
2. What is eliminative materialism? Provide three examples of it.
Eliminative materialism is a way to explain phenomena in nature. Possible solutions are thought of and each explanation is tested and then eliminated if it doesn't work. Eliminative materialism also pertains to new discoveries being made, thus replacing (or eliminating) old ideas and reasonings. Natural disasters were discovered to have geological causes, instead of storms created by angry gods. Diseases like small pox or the plague was also found to have biological causes instead of evil spirits. And however long ago it was discovered, but the notorious question of "Where do babies come from?" As new answers are discovered, old and outdated reasonings are rejected.
