1. Why is Faqir Chand's experiences important in understanding the projective nature of religious visions and miracles?
In the film we watched it goes into details and says to us what occurred to Mr. Chand through a period where he was very close to dying. During this time he portrays his vision, this vision aided him and saved his life. All people can relate as religion and our faith plays a huge role in helping us to survive and keep going. Like how my aunt has been able to beat cancer three times already and didn’t stop fighting. She always tells us that her belief in God and the help it gives her to fight and never give up. This is for everyone with a strong religious belief; religion gives us the ability to believe in things that don’t make sense and gives us hope that some higher power knows what is best for us. We just have to be able to fight when we are given the obstacle if we want to survive as with out the hope and belief many people just give up and think its over for them as they don’t think miracles can happen and all hope is lost.
2. What is meant by the phrase, "philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy." Be sure to support your answers with references to the required readings and films.
I believe the phrase "philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy." Means to me that when philosophy is done well it can be proven by science and when philosophy is not done well cannot be proven they just remain as thoughts. To me I do not believe or like this quote because not everything is proven by science and science cannot prove a lot of things. As we had in previous discussions and essays science leaves a lot of gapping holes in its explanation of things that religion covers up and vise versa. So I thinking that if science cannot prove something then it the thought/thinking is done poorly is very ignorant way of thinking. Science cannot be our end-all be all as scientist do not have all the answer. The same thing goes as someone who just believes in a philosophy and doesn’t take into account what science says and proves this person then will also be ignorant. Like I said before we are human beings given a beautiful and very powerful mind/brain it is a waste if you do not use it and just take the easy route and believe what ever we are told.
