1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
The evolution breaks the concept of “god creates human and other creatures”. It explained how species are different from others. Creatures can rise naturally without any guild, but through natural selection of those which fit to survive.
Evolution makes us understand that purpose of creatures make the species grow strong. Hence, by the selection of nature, those creatures will gene that can adapt to the environment would have the high chance to survive and pass their gene to the next generation.
The implication of evolution to human behavior is that human being is just creatures and they want to make their breed stronger too. Human being would compete with others and the fitness survives. For example, why did man with strong muscle be attractive in the past (like Rambo)? It is because in the old ages, the man who earn money and give a better life for family are those strong man capable to do the hard work. In order to “survive” with greater chance, man should be strong in social perspective. However, nowadays, body strength is not the only way, or not even a way to earn much money. The one with intelligent did. Hence, man looks thin, smart with good skin could be attractive.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
As Wallace put, the natural selection can contribute to the appearance and habit of creatures, but it cannot contribute to human conscious because human’s brain are so complicated organized. He believes there are other rules would govern it. Because unconscious parts in the brain can produce consciousness.
I think he is right to certain extent. In my opinion, I still “believe” that human conscious is the product of a complex chemical reaction in brain. I still “believe” that human who have a greater chance to survive and make a stronger species because conscious could help human to think alternatives to solve problem. However, this belief is not yet well explained by evolutionary theory.
