1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
What is the theory of evolution? According to Charles Darwin, the theory of evolution is the progression of change in an organism that results to better suit a species to a particular environment. These changes in a species make them more likely to survive and reproduce. Taking the theory of evolution into consideration, we assume human behavior has been shaped by process of natural selection. Natural selection occurs to optimize the likelihood of survival long enough to ensure the passing of a species genetic material. If that is the case, looking back on the history of human evolution could be an effective guideline in offering insight to human behavior. Where did the predisposition to fight when threatened come from? Is being afraid of spiders or other insects an evolutionary trait? Human evolution points us to the roots of certain behaviors.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
These are common questions that are asked to evolutionists. First one being, “How and where did life originate?” Well learned scholars such as Professor Edwin Conklin have said, “The probability of life originating from accident is comparable to the probability of the unabridged dictionary resulting from an explosion in a printing shop”. Another common question asked to evolutionists is, “How fast does evolution occur?” Evolution is not something that can be witnessed; it is a process that takes thousands of years, and there are gaps in fossil records so it is all speculation. Though evolution is widely accepted, there is no denying there are many questions to be solved.
