Film Test 4: 22-2
1. Lots of people resist the evolution theory by natural selection because of what they believe in and are scared of angering their gods. People don’t want to accept this theory because it has the power to disprove religions and gods. I was raised catholic but I accept Darwin’s evolution theory by natural selection because it helps explain the world more. As a child I would go to church and listen to priest talk about the world around us. I did not feel like the priest preaching because it did not truly explain the world. When I learned about evolution everything in the world started to make sense. The pros of knowing this theory is that it opens your eyes and makes you think and question everything. The evolution theory allows you to have a more logical way of viewing life. The cons of knowing this theory is that it makes you question your religion. When I learned this theory I started questioning the bible which made me think that I am sinning.
2. What I think the evolution theory cannot explain is what happened and what was before the big bang. This theory cannot also explain why our universe was chosen to have life. But with a couple of more years I believe scientist will find that this theory could in fact explain what was before all the things that caused the big bang.
3. An example of eliminative materialism is knowing that the sun is a star made of energy and light instead of it explain and depicted as a god. Another example of eliminative materialism is the use of medicine for people who are sick instead of an exorcism because they were thought to be possessed by demons or because they where being punished by god. One more example of eliminative materialism is knowing we are cold when we are in cold weather instead of believing that our kinetic energy is low. Eliminative materialism is eliminating our old beliefs because of new knowledge that advances our thinking.
