1. How does the conception of a multiverse (where we find ourselves living in an almost infinite realm that cannot be defined) make you feel? Knowing that you are made up of atoms and material stuff, how does it change the conception you have of yourself?
The concept of a multiverse and sound confusing and defiantly brings on a lot of curiosity. Going through different life experiences by making different decisions create multiverses. Multiverses with endless galaxies and life can be pretty terrifying because it’s so unknown. The feeling that there is more out there that is so unknown is what scares me. I don’t like “not knowing”. On the other hand, knowing that I’m made up of atoms and material stuff does not change the conception I have of myself. Not only am I made up of atoms, but everything around me is made up of atoms as well. Everything I see, touch, and feel is all made of atoms, just rearranged and reacting in different ways. I still believe there is much more to our minds and the way we think and process information then the concept of people being just atoms and material stuff.
2. Quantum Mechanics is based on probability. How does a deep understanding of chance alter your philosophy on life?
A deep understanding of chance alters my philosophy on life by thinking more about the result before making a decision. People really take life for granted and chance is a big factor in this and every decision has a chance of not working out. After watching the film on quantum mechanics, it made me feel grateful but feared as well. You can look at chance in a negative way or you can look at chance in a positive way. Probability is never guaranteed. I personally cannot live off of “probability”. I like knowing what is happening or going to happen at all times. It gives me a good sense of control. I think chance in any situation can be very reckless and uncontrollable at times. Feeling control in an uncontrollable situation is confusing. But I think about what could happen prior to the decisions I make just so I don’t have any unwanted surprises.
3. Relating to "Feynman's Flower" how does science broaden your appreciation of life and beauty? Give examples of your own life where you found something out from science that made you appreciate an ordinary thing or object much more?
Science broadens my appreciation of life and beauty so many different ways. Without science, humans would have never discovered the little things like bacteria and what it looks like under a microscope. Bacteria surround us everywhere. It’s on our bodies and the objects around us, just crawling around. We can’t see them with the unaided eye but science and scientist helped us see them with the microscope. I appreciated the way science has made humans discover the hidden wonders that surround us every day and helps us understand a lot. If it wasn’t for science showing x-rays, ultra sounds, and the understanding of the body, I don’t think I’d ever appreciate the human body. They helped me understand and become curious to how our body functions which why I want to become a nurse one day.
