Why is the theory of evolution important in understanding how human beings behave?
The theory of evolution is important to understand because it is where we started from. In order to even begin studying evolution its self we rely on fossils. And these fossils tell how we first looked like and even certain remains found near the fossils can tell how we acted and what we did as a part of our culture and survival. By chance, in that period of time, the actions of our ancestors were successful and survived to reproduce. The same thing happened over and over again until we get to our time period were we don’t know if our actions will help us survive or not to reproduce. When we see comparison pictures of our ancestors and what we look like today, is a huge difference. But that is all caused by small genetic mutations that has happened to our DNA and could possibly still happen today. Like what Professor Andrea Diem-Lane, said in her book, The DNA of Consciousness, even the smallest changes can have a dramatic impact on its eventual housing. It is also important to know because we wonder why? Why did we evolve and just that question of why raises our intelligence because we are looking for more knowledge. According to Darwins natural selection we evolved because we needed to adapt in order to survive. And we are doing that whether we know it or not.
Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
The questions I think the evolutionary theory cannot answer is the how and why life originated. The evolutionary theory explains natural selection, and how we compete for survival to then reproduce. This is what Darwin was explaining when he talked about natural selection how we adapt to our environment in order to survive. In the video, Darwin’s DNA, it mentions how science attempts to falsify what the conscious attempts to make up but with religion it is all accepted and not tested. The difference between the two is that religion as an answer to the question I mentioned at the beginning. In various reglions it is explained that God created humans and animals and sent them on this journey to survival and live life as god’s creatures and children. Science explains how were all different literally. We all have different genes and DNA that makes us who we are today going more into depth on how our double helix contains this information. But how was this double helix once formed? I’m sure there could be answers to these questions the more we find out about ourselves and our past.
